Caring for blonde hair: the ideal routine for beautiful blonde hair

Blond haar verzorgen: de ideale routine voor mooi blond haar

Keeping blonde hair beautiful is about more than just choosing the right colour. Especially when your hair is dyed, bleached or highlighted, you want to keep your blonde shade fresh while continuing to care for your hair.

The key is finding the right balance: cleansing, toning when needed, conditioning and protecting. So you don’t need to reach for purple shampoo every time you wash your hair.

With a simple routine, you can keep your blonde colour looking beautiful, fresh and well cared for between salon visits.

The routine at a glance

1. Cleanse with a shampoo for colour-treated hair

2. Use purple shampoo when yellow tones become visible

3. Use conditioner after every wash

4. Protect your hair before styling

Step 1: cleanse blonde hair without toning it every time

A common mistake with blonde hair is using purple shampoo every time you wash it. This usually isn’t necessary.

For your regular washes, use a shampoo for colour-treated hair, such as MUVO Colour Luxe Shampoo. You can use this as the basis of your routine and alternate it with a toning shampoo when your blonde colour needs it.

A simple rule
Does your blonde still look fresh? Use your regular shampoo. Are yellow tones becoming visible? Then it’s time for Ultra Blonde.

Step 2: neutralise yellow tones when needed

Blonde, bleached, grey and highlighted hair can start to look warmer or more yellow over time. That’s when you can add MUVO Ultra Blonde Shampoo to your routine.

The purple pigments help neutralise unwanted yellow tones, making your blonde look cooler and fresher again.

Use Ultra Blonde about once or twice a week, or whenever your colour needs it. Leave the shampoo on for 1 to 5 minutes, gradually increasing the processing time.

Step 3: choose how cool you want your blonde to look

Not all blonde hair needs the same amount of toning. Very light, porous or fine hair, for example, may absorb purple pigments more quickly.

Want a subtler result? You can mix Colour Luxe Shampoo and Ultra Blonde Shampoo together. This dilutes the amount of purple pigment, allowing you to build up the colour gradually.

Tip: It’s best to start with less Ultra Blonde and a short processing time. You can always use more pigment at your next wash if you want your blonde to look cooler.

If you don’t want a distinctly cool shade and would prefer a softer beige blonde, take a look at MUVO Creamy Blonde Shampoo.

Step 4: don’t forget conditioner

After washing, conditioning is just as important as maintaining your colour. Bleached and chemically treated hair in particular may need extra hydration and care.

So use a conditioner after washing. After Ultra Blonde, for example, you can use MUVO Ultra Blonde Conditioner. On your regular wash days, MUVO Colour Luxe Conditioner fits perfectly into your routine.

Apply conditioner mainly to the lengths and ends, and leave it on for a little while before rinsing it out thoroughly.

Step 5: protect blonde hair before styling

Using a hairdryer, straighteners or curling irons? Add a leave-in product with heat protection before you start styling.

MUVO Revolution Leave-in Treatment can be used on towel-dried or damp hair and provides heat protection while styling.

Distribute the leave-in evenly through your hair, then style as usual.

Let your blonde colour be your guide

The perfect routine doesn’t have to be complicated. Use a nourishing shampoo as your base, add purple shampoo when yellow tones return, and make sure your hair gets enough care and protection after washing.

This helps you avoid toning your hair unnecessarily often and lets you stay in control of how intense your blonde looks.
